Many photographs in the American Memory Collection were taken by photographers working for the Farm Security Administration or the Office of War Information from 1938 to 1945.
There are both color photos as well as many black and white photos. These were produced by photography units in the Farm Security Administration (FSA) and in the Office of War Information (OWI). The FSA photo focus on rural areas and farm labor. OWI photos focus on factories and women employees, railroads, aviation training, and other aspects of World War II mobilization.
