Carlisle and Steeplerock
Little remains of Carlisle today though a rock and brick chimney
still stands sentinel on the south side of the Canyon.
Mining activity began in the area in 1881--an estimated four million
dollars in gold was shipped between 1880 and 1905. Today, the
roads used by current miners crisscross the fringes of Carlisle.
Our group met two miners at work--a father and son team--who were
reopening an old mine they had bargained for.
Like many miners, past and present, they were anticipating a prosperous
future for their mining project.
