Jemez Springs, Sandoval County, New Mexico

Jemez Springs, in Sandoval County, is on the loop of a New Mexico Scenic Highway, the Jemez Mountain Trail. Traveling along the highway you view red rock country, the Jemez Pueblo, the Jemez State Monument displaying the ruin of a Spanish Mission, Santa Fe National Forest, Jemez Falls, Valle Grande, and the Bandelier National Monument.

The village of Jemez Springs is midway up the San Diego Canyon on the Jemez River between canyon walls of Virgin and Cat Mesas. With a population of about 500, it won a 1995 All-American City award. What it doesn't have is a stop light, gas station, grocery, McDonalds or Wal-Mart. There are some b&b's, small motels, cabins for rent, restaurants, a western saloon and a few arts and crafts galleries.
