Lamy, New Mexico, via the Santa Fe Southern Railroad
Lamy is about 18 miles south of Santa Fe. One way to reach Lamy is to
answer the "All Aboard" call at the Santa Fe Station for a journey to Lamy.
The Santa Fe Southern runs as a working freight train pulling recreational
passenger cars, too, between Santa Fe and Lamy.
You travel in a renovated historic passenger car with all the old charm
recreated. As did railroads in the early 1900's, your train carries both
passengers and freight to and from Santa Fe with connections to the "main
line" (the Amtrak) in Lamy. The stopover in Lamy gives passengers a chance
to explore the depot, eat a picnic lunch, or dine at the "Legal Tender"
restaurant.
When the line was in danger of abandonment in 1992, investors came
together to support a working freight train with recreational passenger
service.
