From the 1920's
SAN GERONIMO MISSION in 1920 was in ruins. Erected in 1600,
this church was battered down by American artillery on February 3,
1847. This is the shrine of Indian heroism and martrydom, where
150 were killed and great numbers wounded. Taos Mountains are in the
background.
SANTA ANA MISSION at the Santo Domingo Pueblo was first
erected in 1700 but destroyed by the flood of 1885. This new
buidling is the most typical of the early New Mexico missions
now (in 1920) found.
