Text was adapted from Earle R. Forrest's MISSIONS AND PUEBLOS OF THE
OLD SOUTHWEST published in the late 1920's. Black and white photos
by Mr. Forrest, which have been digitally enhanced.
In his Preface, Mr. Forrest laments:
"Today I cannot help but marvel at the ease with which the modern
traveler can visit places in a few hours that were a matter of days
twenty years ago; for a journey that required a week on horseback
then is now (1920) made in a day. The automobile has changed what little
was left of the old frontier."
