Account of Raid on San Patricio from 1878

On July 15, 1878, the Cimarron News & Press printed an account of the raid onan Patricio sent in by someone signing himself as "Lincoln".
"They tore San Patricio apart. Headed by J. J. Dolan, the Rio Grande Posse killed and stole horses, broke windows and doors, smashed boxes and robbed them of their contents--from an old woman who was living alone they stole $438. They tore the roof off of Dow Bros. store; threw the goods out on the street and took what they wanted. Towards women they used the vilest language. Citizens working in the fields were fired upon. Dolan killed a horse lariated near the town because the owner was supposed to sympathize with the Regulators.

"Dolan informed the people at San Patricio that there was no law in the county that he would recognize and that when all the Regulators and sympathizers were killed he would leave the d-----d county. He stated he would turn those who sympathized with the Regulators out of their houses, take all their property, and he had power to do as he pleased."
The raid decided many Hispanics to rally to the Regulator's cause.
