Relocating Seven Rivers Cemetery--Preparation in 1986

The first step was to define the cemetery--discovering how many graves there really were and who was buried in them, and of locating next-of- kin. Research began in libraries, archives, and in area newspapers. Clipping files, personal memories and local maps were examined.

The Disinternment Process

By January 26, 1988 the process of disinterment began. The goal was "to locate, disinter, and reinter the remains of all individuals buried in the cemetery in as respectful a manner as possible and to record as much data about the individuals and their burials as possible." An experienced archeological crew worked cooperatively with the contactor's crew.
