Weed, Otero County
Weed is 10 miles south of Mayhill on the eastern slope
of the Sacramento Mountains. Weed began in 1885 when George
and Elizabeth Lewis and their 9 children settled in the area.
The new community took its name from William H. Weed, a White Oaks
merchant who established a branch store in Weed.
Today (1998) it's a farming and ranching community with a lot
of pride in its school which has been operating for over a hundred years.
(Do watch out for the cattle sometimes on roads!)
