In the early 1950's the land now the Dripping Springs Natural Area was
sold to the Cox family who had been ranching on the east side of the
Organs since the late 1800's. A. B. Cox developed his new property
into a succcessful cattle ranch.

Recognizing the ranch's value the Nature Conservatory purchased the
property from the Cox family, then transferred title to the Bureau
of Land Management in exchange for other lands that could be sold
to recover costs.
